Laser Acceleration Innovation Center Cross-Platform


1. Basic information

      The Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center project is the second batch of cross-research platform projects jointly built by Beijing. The construction units are Peking University and Beijing Huairou Science City Construction and Development Co. Ltd , located in block 11 of  Huairou New City. It is planned to build the world's most advanced technology and the most complete functional laser acceleration technology and application research and development platform, including 200TW laser and target rangelaser proton acceleration application research platformprocess support platformlaser proton radiotherapy system research and development platformlaser-driven gamma light source research platform laser-driven wide spectrum coherent light source research platform, a total of six platforms. The total construction area of the project is 30,000 square meters, with a total investment of 423.8 million yuan, The project has been started in December 2019, and it is scheduled to be completed and accepted in June 2022.



2. Research Contents

    The center will carry out pioneering research on the generation of laser-driven high-energy charged ion beams and their applications in fusion energy, space radiation simulation, biological irradiation and ultrafast ion beams applications, and promote the integration of laser accelerators with energy, space, biology and materials; It supports the major instrument special project of the Ministry of Science and Technology " Research and Application Demonstration of Petawatt Laser Proton Accelerator Device" (2019.12-2030.12), it has made breakthrough in the key technology of large-scale medical proton radiotherapy equipment urgently needed by the country; The project will also build and improve the process support platform to provides a strong guarantee and support for the achievement of the scientific research objectives, It also lays the foundation for the subsequent integration of production, education and research.


3. Core tasks

    The construction of the center will provide research conditions for the study of important scientific issues in the fields of radiation medicine, frontier physics, nuclear energy sustainability, and advanced materials; The center has the functions of basic scientific research, large-scale equipment technology research and development, postgraduate training, international academic seminars and other functions, It will become the next generation of advanced accelerator and advanced light source research of scientific research in frontier position in China, it will greatly enhance our overall competition level of scientific research infrastructure in the field of advanced particle accelerator and new light source, attract and cohesion outstanding scientists in relevant fields at home and abroad, cultivate and train first-class scientific and engineering talents. It aims to provide a platform for making major scientific discoveries and major original innovations in basic and frontier fields, and eventually becomes a large-scale comprehensive scientific innovation platform with international influence across disciplines.
